Nest, Installation 2012. 6'x10'x4' Unfired Porcelain, Horse Hair, Iron Oxide, Wood Glue, Water
The clay forms are connected using horse hair and each greenware 'cup' was filled with a water/iron oxide mixture. The bone dry clay began to break down within 30 minutes. With this piece I wanted to experiment with how the breakdown of one segment could cause the same in another. Playing off ideas stemming from the previous piece 'Matriphagy,' I wanted to create an even larger, more cohesive nest structure.
